80th ANNIVERSARY COMMEMORATIONS OF THE BATTLES FOR MONTE CASSINO

With the 80th anniversary of the Battles for Cassino fast approaching, the Society will hold two Memorial services in the UK on Saturday 18th May 2024, which members and non-members alike are invited to attend.

The service at the National Memorial Arboretum, Litchfield, Staffordshire will take place by the Monte Cassino Society Memorial, with attendees meeting there on Saturday 18th May at 13.45 for a 14.00 start. After the service there will be an informal gathering in the cafeteria. The NMA website states that although entry to the Arboretum is free, there is a £6 charge for car-parking, which can be reduced to £4 by booking ahead.

The service at Blackhall St Columba’s Church in Edinburgh on Saturday 18th May 2024 will be led by the Reverend Fergus Cook, and will (subject to final confirmation) begin at 16.00. It will also be available to view by live-stream on the church website, at www.blackhallstcolumba.org.uk

If you do intend to attend either of these services, it would be helpful if you could let our Hon. Secretary, Lesley Teasdale know, at info@montecassinosociety.co.uk so that we have an idea of numbers in attendance.

Service of Thanksgiving and Remembrance for the liberation of Rome.

A special Service of Thanksgiving and Remembrance for the Liberation of Rome is being held in Aldershot Cathedral at 11.30 on Saturday 15th June 2024, under the auspices of Bishop Mason, Bishop of the Forces.
This will be a different kind of service, to include readings, music and personal stories and statements about those who served in the Italian campaign.
The service is open to all, and the Monte Cassino Society will be represented.
If you would like to attend and deliver a personal address, please contact Eddie O’Sullivan at edmundosullivan1@gmail.com
